The Minister for Agriculture, Rural and Maritime Development and National Disaster Management Hon. Inia Seruiratu who officiated at the graduation ceremony today reminded the youths on the important task that they face.
Government, he said remained committed towards the empowerment of Youths through building capacity, knowledge and skills of young Fijian people through such training’s as a way forward to tackling the general lack of interest by youths in active commercial agriculture production.
The agricultural sector offers huge potential for youth and both the Ministry of Agriculture and the Ministry of Youth and Sports must continue to emphasize this fact. We need to encourage as many young people as possible to get into commercial agriculture production and even to venture into agro-processing.
A significant numbers of youths from around the country have benefited from the training programs offered by the training centre since its inception in the 1970s, aiming to train youths in organic farming and basic agriculture skills. The training offered at the Nasau Training Centre is consistent with the Government’s objective of commercializing the agriculture subsistence sub-sector.
