Government has commended Gibson Freight for enhancing Fiji’s status as regional hub for transportation and transshipment. This was highlighted by the Ministry of Public Enterprises permanent secretary David Kolitagane at the launch of the company’s new warehouse complex in Valelevu this evening.
The $1.6 million facility is expected to offer additional logistics services to the company’s clients and support the new streamlined point to point freight forwarding service from China and the United States of America. Mr Kolitagane said this new investment demonstrates the confidence global operators have in the Fijian economy.
“Gibson freight is not a new entrant into the Fijian market as it was established back in the 1990 to assist garment industries entry into the Australian market,” Mr Kolitagane said.
“The Fiji garment industry provided a vital base for Gibson Freight to secure and develop its presence in Fiji and at the same time using Fiji as a hub.” Mr Kolitagane adds that the Fijian Government has been working to transform Fiji into a dynamic, internationally competitive economy serving as the trade and investment hub of the Pacific. Gibson Freight executive chairman Bill Gibson commended the Fijian government for supporting these business investments in the country.
“This will not only contribute to the economy however, this investment will open up employment for Fijians,” Mr Gibson said.
