His Excellency the President Major General (Ret’d) Jioji Konusi Konrote commended the work carried out by Rotary clubs around Fiji in nurturing and promoting civic minded individuals.
President Konrote highlighted the commendable work of the club while officiating at the dinner organised by the Rotary Club of Suva at the Grand Pacific Hotel in Suva this evening.
President Konrote said Fiji has been the beneficiary of such influence as the Rotarians continue to provide significant community support and outreach to those in need, including the marginalised and the disadvantaged.
“The Rotarians have stood true to their calling of “Service above Self” or “S.A.S” akin to the special services in various armed forces! Their support of community development is indeed special because they have helped to mobilise a heightened community spirit that has empowered and transformed the lives of many ordinary members of society,” he said.
“Importantly, their assistance is based on the genuine needs of the communities. This is highly commendable.”
President Konrote highlighted the Rotary club recently assisted Fiji’s Ministry of Health and Medical Services to equip its Catheterisation Laboratory.
“The Ministry of Health has advised that the Cath-Lab is making some positive impact in the services provided for cardiac patients. Many of them are now aware of the need to change their lifestyle. And this is important because heart failure is among the major causes of deaths in Fiji and the Pacific.”
There are four Rotary clubs – the original Rotary Club of Suva, the Rotary Club of Suva North, the Rotary Club of Suva East and the Rotary Club of Suva Peninsula Sunset.
Additionally, there are Rotary Clubs in Nadi, Lautoka, Labasa, Taveuni, and Savusavu. There are also several Rotary Clubs in other municipalities throughout Fiji.
