The Attorney General and Minister of Economy, Hon. Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum today officiated at the closing of Naivicula Kindergarten Preschool Week in Tailevu, Korovou.
The Early Childhood Education (ECE) Week came to a close with the message on the importance of education.
The AG said Education is part and parcel of the Bainimarama Government and they have invested in education to grow the economy.
“These children need to be educated and qualified to get employment. Government is thinking long-term and we have invested in our people to grow our economy and empower ordinary Fijians,” AG said.
He informed the Naivicula community of Government initiatives on education such as the Tertiary Education Loans Scheme (TELS) and the National Toppers Scheme as well as TVET for students to pursue their further education.
“We have announced in the 2017-2018 budget that TELS would no longer need a guarantor for students and we have also increased allowance up to $6,200 per year. Students who wish to pursue trade education can apply to any of the 13 technical colleges that we have in Fiji which TELS also funds.”
The AG added that there is a shortage of trade people in the country and Government is emphasizing on students to pursue technical colleges as well as science based subjects to fill gap in technical employment.
